UPDATE: Using Random.org, I randomly selected comment #10, Mari, as the winner of the $25 Staples gift card! Congratulations, Mari! Please email me your mailing address!
School starts here in T-minus 5 days. FIVE. Never mind that it’s still literally 110 degrees in the shade…
One thing I’ve always looked forward to about the beginning of a new school year is the feeling of a fresh start. New year, new classes, new possibilities. And nothing really symbolizes a fresh start than brand-new school supplies. I’m not ashamed to admit I still get giddy when I see the displays of new notebooks, binders, folders, pens, erasers and more.
That’s probably why I love shopping at Staples. You can feel like it’s back-to-school time year-round, just by walking through the aisles. I can always find what I’m looking for there at a great price, and it’s always been my go-to office supply store.
So when I had the opportunity to participate in the Staples Back-to-School Blogger Tour, I didn’t even had to think about it. (“That was easy!”) Staples sent me an assortment of school supplies to review, and they are also giving one of YOU a $25 gift card to help with your back-to-school shopping. How cool is that?
When I got home a week or so ago and saw that I’d received a box from Staples, I also noticed that it had already been opened. Yes, Boy #1 had already dug through and claimed the Omnitech Portable Speaker for his iPod. I have to admit, I don’t blame him. It’s small enough to throw into a backpack and looks pretty darn cool. And at only $9.99, you don’t have to worry about your kid losing it — or it accidentally going through the washing machine. (Unlike the iPod . . . not that I’m speaking from experience . . . ) This product is exclusive to Staples, so don’t go looking for it elsewhere, people.Boy #2 had his eye on the Staples Flexible Calculator. He’s already a math geek (like his dad), but for kids who aren’t that fond of math, this would give them a reason to think of math as (gasp!) fun. Plus it’s only $3.99. Score!
What could make going to kindergarten more fun than carrying your pencils in a pouch made entirely from a zipper? Teens would love this trendsetter too. What’s really cool is that the Zip It—Unzip Your Mind pencil pouch ($5.99) was the brainchild of an Israeli student whose class project called for turning an everyday item into something new.
My favorite products, though, were the DoSomething.org school supplies, also exclusive to Staples. These “supplies with a cause” help students stay organized while also learning about important issues that impact their communities. The notebooks, planners, comp books, pocket portfolios and pencil pouches have really cool designs and also include background info on issues, as well as tips for students on how they can make a difference. Right now, Staples is teaming up with Twilight actress Nikki Reed and DoSomething.org for the 3rd Annual National Do Something 101 School Supply Drive. Teen are encouraged to collect school supplies and drop them off at their nearest Staples store through Sept. 18. To kick off the campaign, Staples donated more than $125,000 in school supplies, and right now anyone can donate $1 at Staples, with all of the proceeds going to local students in need. All of the school supplies that are collected will go to educational and not-for-profit organizations that serve disadvantaged youth.
So if you haven’t been shopping Staples, you really need to check it out. Plus right now they have amazing weekly deals, like flash drives for $1 and packs of paper for ONE CENT. I’m pretty sure this is the only thing a penny can buy anymore!
