Speck: My MacBook’s New Bodyguard

by Paula on April 5, 2009

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I haven’t had the best luck when it comes to laptops. In fact, I’m on laptop #4 in about that many years. (Remember this?) So when I got my newest appendage laptop, I wanted to fully protect it from the scratches, bumps, and general carelessness of my boys. (Did I mention that my first laptop screen broke when Husband accidentally dropped it down an entire flight of stairs?)

I first started looking at hard cases at the Apple Store. I immediately liked the one I saw from Speck Products, but I wasn’t thrilled about the color they had in stock. So I decided to do some more research before settling on one. After scouring the Interweb for MacBook cases, I decided that Speck was the manufacturer for me. Durable cases with great reviews in super-cool colors. Just browsing around on their site led me to peg them as a hip company that values both durability and design.

Next came the hard part: deciding on the color. Pink? Red? Blue? After going back and forth between green and orange, I went for orange—Hazard Orange. And I love it. And the best part? If I break down alongside the road, it doubles as a road flare. (Disclaimer: Speck Products does not endorse the use of its MacBook cases as emergency roadside assistance apparatuses. This idea is solely the idea of the blog author, who may or may not be a smidge loony.)

See how cute it is?

Since debuting my computer’s new digs at the office, both my boss and a co-worker have purchased their own Speck cases. (Copycats.) And a testament to the great customer service that Speck Products also include: The case my boss received was a bit damaged, and she called the customer service number and spoke with the friendliest representative who informed her that all cases have a one-year warranty, and they shipped her a new one immediately!

And guess what? Speck Products aren’t limited to MacBook cases either. Got another brand of laptop? Speck’s got you covered. Got an iPod, iPhone, or other MP3 player? Yep, Speck can hook you up. They even make totally cool bags and other bag-ish products if you’re not in the market for a “techy” accessory.

But wait—it just got better! My new friend Edith (Hi, Edith!), who helps promote Speck Products, has offered all of my readers a discount code that can get you 25% off nearly anything in their online store! Just enter buddy25 at checkout! Thanks, Edith and Speck! After seeing THESE AWESOME CASES on the site today, I’m not sure I’ll be able to live without possessing one…

(Yes, for my new iPHONE!!)

Wanna get the inside scoop on Speck Products, including giveaways? You can become a fan on Facebook or follow them on Twitter! Oh, yeah. I’m already doing both.

One thing I do have to say is that time will tell how good this case really is. When the boys first saw it on my computer (and they realized that no, I hadn’t just bought ANOTHER new computer), what was the first thing out of Boy #2′s mouth? “Ohhhh, so we can drop it on the ground and it won’t break?” Honestly, he said it so matter-of-factly I thought he was going to go all “Mythbusters” on me and try it out right then and there. I tried to make it ABUNDANLTY CLEAR that Mommy’s laptop CAN STILL BREAK and is NOT MADE OF SOME NEW INDESTRUCTIBLE TITANIUM ALLOY, but with our track record I’m not putting anything past the boys. Good luck, Speck! You’ve definitely got your work cut out for you!

Mythbusters at home…lol

Those are cool. I might have to look at one for my ipod…cause I drop that thing at least once a week.
