Thriftilicious Thursday—Giving and Getting
For this week’s edition of Thriftilicious Thursday, I want to highlight two awesome Web sites that I’ve recently discovered.
The first is all about GIVING. I’m all about Random Acts of Kindness. LOVE IT! But let’s face it, sometimes I just don’t have an extra $4.59 to pay for someone’s Extra Value Meal in the McDonald’s drive-thru. That’s one reason I am in love with Operation Beautiful. My (beautiful) sister Pam forwarded me an email with the link yesterday because she thought it sounded like something I’d like. Hello?! Does she know me well or what? I literally had CHILLS when I perused the site. What a fabulous idea! Started by a woman who is passionate about ending “fat talk” among women (And yes, I’m guilty!), she started leaving random notes on bathroom windows or in stalls that say things like “You’re beautiful on the inside and outside!” or “God loves you—just the way you are!” Think about that. How powerful that simple act could be to someone who really needs some encouragement. And the thriftilicous part? It’s free! All you need is some paper or sticky notes and something to write with! Then you can email the site administrator and let her know what you did, and she’ll post it on the blog! Warm feelings all around! I’m going to start carrying a big pad of Post-It notes in my purse from now on! One of the verses that’s been laid on my heart lately is Psalm 139:14: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” I think that would be a great verse to post for someone, along with “God does not make mistakes; you are perfect just the way you are!” I’d love to find that waiting for me on the mirror of a truckstop bathroom on a day when I’m hot and sweaty with three grumpy and whiny boys waiting for me in the car. What a gift!
The second site is all about GETTING (well, and GIVING too). The Bright Side Project is a site that’s all about spreading sunshine. Here’s their mission:
The Bright Side Project is here to bring you sunshine every day with themed, daily giveaways. We hope to inspire you to stop for a second and remember life is (still) beautiful and there is goodness in the world.
How awesome is that? They introduce some type of good or artwork that to them reflects the goodness in the world—and then they give you a chance to win it! And all you have to do is leave a comment answering their question. Today’s giveaway features the photography of Yvette Inunfio, and her dreamy prints made me want to hang them up all over my house. They are so relaxing yet incredibly artistic! So, subscribe to The Bright Side Project and check back daily to get a dose of sunshine and register to win—you can’t get much more thriftilicious than that! Oh, and if you have an iPhone, they also have an app you can install so you can keep up with their giveaways from the convenience of your phone!
It’s a dreary day here in Iowa, but these two sites have definitely made my day brighter. Hope they do the same for you!
OK, I may have post-it notes printed just to stick on mirrors. Love it!
