What I *Heart* About Iowa

Experiencing the beginning of all four seasons.
Having your closest neighbors be a quarter of a mile away, but you know them as well as family.
Watching cornstalks blowing in the breeze on a warm June day.
Giving someone the “farmer wave” (index finger raised) as you drive by, whether you know that person or not
Waking to the serenade of songbirds and cows.
Falling asleep to the sound of coyotes howling in the distance at a train going by.
Sending your kids to a school in which you have pride.
Living a life that can be as fast- or slow-paced as you want it to be.

Knowing that if you need help, there is always someone like An Iowa Mom, ready to lend you a hand—just because that’s the “Iowa” thing to do.

If you would like to donate to victims of Flood ’08 who have lost their homes, businesses, and belongings, please visit http://www.help-iowaflood2008.net. She is collecting money that will go directly to families who have been affected by the flood. She will also be posting information from specific families in need so you can either donate items or contribute funds directly to them if you so choose. Please, spread the word. It’s amazing to think about how much we have, and how much any donation, no matter the amount or size, can affect someone else’s life.

Iowa says “thank you.”

  1. thanks for this post. more often than not lately, i’ve wondered why the heck i ever moved back here. it’s nice to be reminded of the good things. i gotta admit…no one ever waved back to me when i gave everyone the index finger wave in a city of over a million people.

  2. I guess I’ll always be an Iowa girl at heart! You’ll be really shocked now when I tell you that I not only love Iowa, I sometimes dream of moving back to OSCEOLA! 🙂
